SaharaReporters has learned that the embattled former
Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, did not appear
at the Westminster Magistrates Court today.
On Friday October 2nd it was revealed that Mrs. Alison-Madueke was arrested by agents attached to the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom on offenses related to bribery, money laundering, and other financial crimes. After a lengthy interrogation she was released on bail along with four others connected to her arrest.
According to Sam Piranty, a BBC correspondent, the court and the NCA froze 27,000 sterling pounds belonging to Alison-Madueke.
SaharaReporters reported earlier that Alison-Madueke’s mother Beatrice Agama and Melanie Spenser were arrested.
A confidential source told SaharaReporters that the fifth person arrested on Friday is suspected to be of Nigerian nationality. It is believed that Melanie Spenser is a Swiss national but that has not been independently confirmed by SaharaReporters.
Sources speaking to SaharaReporters have said that there “were likely more arrests this weekend” of people connected to Alison-Madueke’s financial crimes.
